1148 Fire Daily Update for July 21, 2022

1148 Fire
Publication Type: News 07/21/2022

July 21, 2022
1:30 pm

Size: 500 acres
Containment: 45%
Date Started: July 18, 2022
Cause: Human Caused - Roadside Start

Last night a hand crew and several engines extensively mopped up the northern ridge line, working to put out any heat they found near the fire line. This work is instrumental in containing this fire, any section of line with heat still in it is a potential for fire to get out of the containment lines. Engines also continued to work around structures and FM 1148, double checking everything making sure that there is no heat left around to threaten structures.Today, crews are going to continue mop up. All resources on the fire are working to meet the goal of containing this fire. Resources are working around the whole fire continuing to mop up. The largest focus will be the northern ridge line, where the largest amount of heat has been identified. Last night an Infrared flight flew over the fire and provided an excellent map for ground resources to seek and destroy these heats. Tonight, resources will continue to mop up the perimeter again.Today a heavy equipment task force will be released from the fire to return to its base in Merkel, Texas to be available for response to new starts. Additionally, there will also be an Initial Attack group established here at the fire to be available for new starts across North Texas. Aerial resources are standing by to assist here and other fires across the state.

Weather

Last night storms moved through the region, providing scattered moisture to a small number of locations. However, there were also numerous lightning strikes that can potentially start new fires.

Temperatures will be a little cooler today, topping out at a cool 99 degrees. Humidity will also be higher, falling to somewhere between 25 and 35%. There is a small chance for rain this morning, and more thunderstorms this afternoon. Winds will be erratic around these storms, potentially causing increased fire behavior.

Resources

Currently there are 131 personnel assigned to this incident. This number does not include the many volunteers that are on scene assisting their neighbors and community. Resources will begin to be released from this fire as conditions allow and prepare for the next fire.

Damages and Injuries

We have confirmed five homes have been destroyed as well as five outbuildings. There have been two firefighters with minor heat injuries. Both firefighters were treated by paramedics on scene
