Cerro Pelado Fire Update – June 14, 2022


 

JEMEZ SPRINGS, NM – June 14, 2022 – The Northern New Mexico Type 3 Team will transition the fire back to the Jemez Ranger District on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Fire crews have been successful in completely containing the fire. The Jemez Ranger District type 4 organization will continue rehabilitation of the fire area in coordination with the Cerro Pelado Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) Team, continue with suppression repair, and will patrol the fire perimeter. After Wednesday, the incident information phone number will no longer be active, and questions should be directed to the Jemez Ranger District at 505-829-3535 or the Santa Fe National Forest at 505-438-5300. Incident Commander Luke McLarty and the rest of the Northern New Mexico Type 3 Incident Management Team would like to thank the community for their hospitality and support.

 Start date:  April 22, 2022.  Location:  7 miles east of Jemez Springs, NMSize:  45,605 acres.  Percent Contained:  100%  Cause: UnknownRemaining Resources for the type 4 organization:  1 engine, 3 water tenders, 1 ambulance, 1 grader, 1 dozer, 1 excavator, 1 chipper crew.          Total Remaining Personnel: 25

 Restrictions/Closures:  The Santa Fe National Forest has implemented a forest closure due to the extreme fire danger. Stage 2 and stage 3 restrictions remain in effect for the Santa Fe National Forest, which prohibits entry into the forest without proper permits, prohibits all campfires and other hazardous activities. Due to ongoing fire threats, Sandoval County will not issue burn permits. Stage 3 fire restrictions are in effect for Pueblo de Cochiti and Los Alamos.

 BAER Information: The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) Burned Area Emergency Response team continues assessment of National Forest System (NFS) lands impacted by the Cerro Pelado Fire.
