CURRENT STATUS

Yesterday the Trail Ridge Fire burned actively to the southwest due to the prevailing winds into the head of Prairie Creek. The fire growth was observed on all sides of the fire. The fire is still burning within the 2000 Mussigbrod burned area.  There is a large amount of deadfall on the ground with numerous snags throughout the area.  Lookouts are being utilized to monitor the fire.  Crews are looking for options in case the fire moves closer to private lands.

The Thompson Creek Fire is burning near Mystic Lake. Crews on the fire have completed line with a hose lay including sprinklers around the perimeter. They also have improved the line to 10 feet on 70% of the perimeter.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR

Today will be slightly warmer and drier, with increased southwest winds in the afternoon. Humidity recoveries will continue to be poor.  Hot and dry will remain on Wednesday, and winds are expected to become gusty during the afternoon.  There is a slight chance for thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon.

Trail Ridge Fire Area Closure Bitterroot National Forest ·        Described Area:  All national Forest Service Lands on the Darby-Sula Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest in the area bounded and the west by US Highway 93, on the north by Montana Secondary Highway 472 “East Fork Road”, on the east and including FS Rd 725 -Meadow Creek Road, and on the south by the forest boundary.  This includes all roads and trails within the defined area including portions of the Continental Dived National Scenic Trail (CDNST) ·        Fire Restrictions: Stage 2 Fire Restrictions on all Bitterroot National Forest lands in Montana.
