S
tart Date: 8/26/2022
Cause: Lightning
Size: 1,287 acres

CURRENT STATUS
The Trail Ridge fire is currently burning on the border of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Bitterroot National Forests in the 2000 Mussigbrod Fire burn area. Today's acreage has been updated to reflect last night's InfraRed mapping. Warmer daytime and overnight temperatures, combined with consistent wind is creating conditions that encourage fire growth. These conditions have resulted in publishing a closure for public safety as fire managers look at long-term planning for this incident. Information for viewing that closure can be found at the bottom of this update.   BDNF Fire and Forest Leadership are working closely with the Bitterroot National Forest to develop joint objectives, strategies and tactics on this fire.

WEATHER AND FIRE BEHAVIOR
Weather is currently the driving factor for this fire as warmer than usual daily temperatures persist with a forecast high of 92 degrees today and maximum wind gusts of 26 mph are predicted for this afternoon. Haze is anticipated to continue hanging in the Big Hole Valley as well as being pushed into other communities, along with the smoke from the Moose Fire in Idaho.
