National Forest Area and Trail Closure (For Public Safety)

Ross Fork Fire

PROHIBITIONS:

  Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 CFR 261.50 (a) and (b), the following act is prohibited on the National Forest System (NFS) lands and trails within the Fairfield Ranger District, Sawtooth National Forest, described below and shown on the attached map incorporated into this Order in Exhibit A (“Closed Area” and “Closed Trails”): 1.     Going into or being upon the Closed Area. 36 CFR 261.52(e), 261.53(e) 2.     Being on the Closed Trails. 36 CFR 261.55(a)

 

EXEMPTIONS:

Pursuant to 36 CFR 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order: 1.     Persons with a special use authorization or other Forest Service authorization specifically exempting them from the effect of this Order. 2.     Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire fighting force in the performance of an official duty. 3.     Federal or State administrative personnel in the performance of an official duty.
 

CLOSED AREA AND TRAILS DESCRIPTION:

The Closed Area is within the Fairfield Ranger District, Sawtooth National Forest, Camas County, Idaho, Boise Meridian. The Closed Area is all NFS lands within the following boundaries: ·       Beginning in the southeast quarter of Section 8, Range 13 East, Township 5 North, at the intersection of Ross Fork Jeep Trail 888 and Johnson Creek Trail 181; ·       Continuing west along Ross Fork Jeep Trail 888 in Sections 6 and 1, to its intersection with the South Fork Ross Trail 227 in the northeast quarter of Section 2 – all in Range 13 East, Township 5 North; ·       Continuing to the north along North Fork Ross Trail 226 for ½ mile in Section 35, Range 13 East, Township 6 North; ·       Then following the ridgeline to the west in Sections 35 and 34 to the watershed boundary and boundary of the Fairfield Ranger District and the Sawtooth Wilderness (also boundary of Camas and Elmore Counties) south of Rossview Peak in Sections 34 – all in Range 13 East, Township 6 North; ·       Then following the ridgeline to the north separating the Fairfield Ranger District and the Sawtooth Wilderness (also the Camas and Elmore County boundary) in Sections 27, 22, 15, and 14 to the boundary of the Fairfield Ranger District, Sawtooth Wilderness and Sawtooth National Recreation Area (corner of Camas, Elmore and Blaine Counties, watershed divide) in Section 11 – all in Range 13 East, Township 6 North; ·       Continuing east on the ridgeline (watershed divide separating Fairfield Ranger District and Sawtooth National Recreation Area and Camas/Blaine Counties) in Sections 11, 12, 13, 18, 17, 20, 21, 22, 27, 26, 25, and 36 to the Vienna Trail 086 – all in Range 13 East ,Township 6 North; ·       Following the Vienna Trail 086 in Section 36 and 34 west to intersection with Johnson Trail 181 in Section 33 – all in Range 13 East Township 6 North; ·       Continuing down Johnson Trail 181 to south in Section 33, Range 13 East Township 6 North, and Sections 4, 9, and 8, Range 13 East Township 5 North, to the terminus at the intersection with Ross Fork Jeep Trail 888 in Section 8, Range 13 East, Township 5 North.   The Closed Trails are all NFS Trails or portions of NFS Trails (NFST) within or bordering the Closed Area: Johnson Trail (NFST 181), Vienna Trail (NFST 086), Ross Fork Jeep Trail (NFST 888), North Fork Ross Trail (NFST 226), Deep Creek Trail 824, and Gold Run Creek 825.

PURPOSE:

To protect public safety during active firefighting operations.

IMPLEMENTATION:

1.     This Order will be in effect August 17, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. and shall remain in effect until November 15, 2022, at 5:00 P.M.

2.     A map identifying the Closed Area is attached and made part of this Order. 3.     A violation of the above prohibition(s) is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. [16 U.S.C § 551, 18 U.S.C §§ 3559, 3571, 3581].
