BLM Southwest District Fire successfully completed 280 acres on the West Dolores Rim prescribed burn today. Firefighters will look at burning Units 23 and 24 on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, if conditions are good. During ignition operations, holding crews are needed to ensure the operation goes smoothly and is successful. They follow behind the ignition crew and consist of firefighters using UTV’s with water tanks and pumps, engines, and hose lays. The unmanned aircraft system (UAS) drone with infrared camera can also be used to check for any heat outside the unit.
