BLM Southwest District will Conduct Prescribed Pile Burning Dec. 16, 2021

Southwest District BLM Prescribed Fire
Publication Type: Announcement 01/05/2022

BLM Southwest District will conduct prescribed pile burning on the BLM-administered lands in Gunnison and Tres Rios Field Offices.

Tres Rios Field Office - Canyons of Ancients National Monument in the Yellow Jacket area, 24 miles west of Cortez, CO if conditions are favorable. Approximately 36 hand piles to remove Tamarisk, willow, and Russian olive brush. Removal of invasive plant species helps to restore the riparian habitat. Smoke maybe visible from Hwy 491.

Gunnison Field Office will burn 20 machine piles from an old timber sale in the Los Pinos area, 13 miles south of Powderhorn, CO and Hwy 149 if conditions are favorable. The timber sale removed standing dead trees near private property. Smoke maybe visible from County Road 27 and Powderhorn.
