Yeti Fire PM Update, August 3, 2022

Yeti and Alex Fires
Publication Type: News 08/03/2022

The fire was active today as the temperature rose and humidity dropped. Crews are working on containment lines on the southeast side of the fire, opening up and improving a road southeast of West Grider Creek to meet existing reopened dozer lines west of Grider Creek and the Pacific Crest Trail. Firefighters also worked along a road system southwest toward China Point, working with dozers to cut off the fire’s spread toward Happy Camp. Along with working on these primary lines, crews are working on opening contingency lines to use should they become necessary. These include lines from below Thompson Creek south along the river and road and above the community of Seiad. These secondary lines will act as back up for community protection. On the north/ northwest sides, the fire continues to back toward the river in multiple fingers. Due to the steep terrain, burning material is rolling downhill, then igniting the fuels and burning back uphill, causing short upslope runs.
