CURRENT CONDITIONS:

Weather played a major factor in firefighting operations yesterday by reducing fire activity. Sustained winds from the southeast registered at 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph which tested the containment lines around the fire perimeter.  The western perimeter held, and the fire behavior was moderate with mostly low intensity ground fire.  Crews worked arduously throughout the day improving, securing, and patrolling those lines.

Today, minimal fire activity is expected and has been limited to smoldering and creeping due to the cooler temperatures and continued light to moderate rainfall. Although weather conditions continue to mitigate threats from the fire, risk for driving, falling trees, rocks and debris flow are still of concern. Road conditions will be scouted since more damage to the area can be done by traveling on the muddy roads.  Scouts and lookouts are keeping watch over the fire area for any other hazards.  Scattered burning logs and stumpholes remain but there is no active burning front.  Crews will continue to mop up and strengthen the holding lines and increase containment of the fire.  Fire engines and firefighters will be staged throughout the City of Big Bear throughout the weekend until conditions improve with the weather pattern that has affected the fire area.

WEATHER:

The remnants of tropical storm Kay will continue to bring occasional showers and thunderstorms through the weekend along with wind with gusts up to 30 mph.  The cloud cover will be intermittent today and the sun may dry out vegetation in the fire area.   Although containment has increased, the fire is not out.  A flash flood watch is in effect for the San Bernardino Mountains, including the fire area until 8PM Saturday evening.
