Current Situation: Fire behavior yesterday was moderate with some isolated burning of interior pockets of fuel which created a few small visible smoke columns. All fire activity yesterday was well within the established containment lines and crews utilized helicopters with buckets of water to cool these pockets of heat. Crews were able to gain additional containment on the northeast side of the fire bringing containment to 31% and the fire remains 839 acres.  

Current Situation:Cloudy conditions suppressed fire activity on Wednesday keeping fire behavior minimal. Despite the cloud cover, the fire area received no precipitation. Today’s weather brings sunny conditions with dry, warm and breezy winds. Fire activity is predicted to be minimal with creeping and smoldering of unburned pockets of fuel within the current fire perimeter. The Sugarloaf Fire is 839 acres and 23% contained.

Current Situation:  As a drier weather pattern moves into the area, there may be an increase in smoke over the Sugarloaf Fire. Lighter fuels, such as grasses, will begin to dry out after several days of rain and higher humidity levels allowing them to burn more readily. Fire behavior is expected to remain minimal with creeping and smoldering in heavier fuels such as logs and stumps. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are still possible. The fire is 516-acres with 0% containment. 

Current Situation: For the second day in a row, precipitation fell over the Sugarloaf Fire limiting fire activity to backing, creeping, and smoldering. The fire remains 512-acres with 0% containment. Limited fire spread is expected to continue until a change in weather occurs. 

Current Situation: On Wednesday, a second day of minimal fire activity allowed firefighters to complete direct handline from Cow Creek, along the northern edge of the perimeter, to the eastern edge of the fire. A helicopter assisted handcrews with water drops in areas where pockets of residual heat remained along the line. Following an overnight flight, the size of the fire has been updated to 510 acres and remains 0% contained. The increase in acreage is a combination of the small amount of growth over the last 24 hours and better mapping from the overnight infrared flight.

 Current Situation: This morning, the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team three, under the command of Bill Waln, assumed command of the Sugarloaf Fire.
