CURRENT STATUS Today on the southwest flank of the Hog Trough Fire, crews will continue brushing the Weasel Creek Trail, to clear flammable materials away from containment line. A dozer has started improving the 1135 Road, north of the Weasel Creek Trail, for crews to better gain access to the fires edge. To the southeast, crews finished cleaning up a slop-over fire that crossed the Signal Rock Trail and backhauled remaining supplies. Crews will continue planned firing operations off the Signal Rock Trail if weather and wind directions allow.

CURRENT STATUS Fire behavior on the Hog Trough Fire was minimal yesterday due to cooler temperatures, scattered precipitation, and higher humidity levels. Crews will steer the fire to the south and east, through previously burned areas where there are fewer values at risk. There will be minimal to no perimeter growth to the north and northwest.

CURRENT STATUS The Hog Trough Fire was active yesterday, once again producing smoke visible from the Bitterroot Valley. Fire line is holding strong on the west flank, however there was some spread on the south flank of the fire, particularly in the Signal Rock area to the southeast. Interior pockets of fuel burned yesterday contributing to the smoke seen in the valley. To the southwest, the fire is continuing to slowly back down the Weasel Creek drainage.

CURRENT STATUS The Central Montana Type 3 team will take over command of the Fuse Lake Fire today. The Fuse Lake Fire was detected on August 14th and is actively burning in timber. The cause has not been determined. A Type 2 helicopter was utilized to drop buckets of water throughout the day and a wildland fire module was diverted to the area for direct attack on the fire. A Type 2 initial attack crew will arrive today to provide additional firefighting capacity.  

CURRENT STATUS The Hog Trough Fire flared up late yesterday afternoon due to hot, dry, and breezy conditions. This caused the smoke column that was visible from the Bitterroot Valley floor. The increased fire activity was primarily located on the southwest corner of the fire, though increased fire behavior also occurred to the southeast. This area of the fire is primarily burning into itself, at the head of the Weasel Creek Trail, though some perimeter growth is expected.
