Incident: Wildland fire, lightning-caused, reported on August 2, 2014

Location: 24 miles south of Lewiston, ID

Jurisdiction: Craig Mountain Fire Protection District, Idaho Department of Lands

Cooperating Agencies: United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Nez Perce Tribe, The Nature Conservancy, and Nez Perce County

Incident Commander: Shawn Pearson, Northern Rockies Type II Incident Management Team (IMT)

Current Size: Approximately 65,200 acres Containment: 100%

Strategy: Full Suppression Structures Threatened: 0

Structures Lost: 9

Yesterday’s Activities: There was little fire activity yesterday. On average ½ inch fell over the fire area yesterday and overnight. Crews finished mop up on the northeast edge of the fire, and rehabilitation work continued on the eastern sections. The majority of the fire remains in patrol status. Resources continue to be demobed and/or transferred to other incidents.

Current Resources: The number of firefighters on the incident is 168. Resources assigned include 2 crews, 1 helicopters, 7 engines, 3 dozers, 2 watertenders and support personnel.

Planned Actions: Crews will continue to be in the fire area mopping up and rehabilitating sections. All other areas of the fire will continue to be patrolled and monitored. The fire will be transferred over to a local Type 4 organization at 6:00 a.m. Saturday August 16th, 2014.

Special Messages/Closures:

  • On Friday morning Stage 1 Evacuation Notice will be lifted for all areas surrounding the Big Cougar Fire.

  • Zaza Rd (#540) remains closed south of the Deer Creek intersection until Saturday morning, August 16th, 2014.
