The Hurricane Creek Fire located in the Eagle Cap Wilderness on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest was reported at 4:30 am on July 14th and as of August 8, 2014 is currently estimated at 1,615 acres. The fire was caused by lightning and is located in the Eagle Cap Wilderness on the backside of Chief Joseph Mountain in the Dunn Creek drainage about ½ mile from the Hurricane Creek Trailhead.

Outlook

Planned Actions

The fire is being patrolled and a couple of smokes were visible on the interior portion of the fire today. Visitors should refrain from entering the fire area and be cautious in the burned area for snags and other fire debris. Due to the cold front on 9/8/14, warmer daytime temperatures, and dry fuel conditions, there has been increased fire activity in the Thorp Creek area and some activity in Twin Creek.
