The GC Complex is made up of the Grouse Mountain Fire and the Starvation Fire. Both fires are believed to have started by lightning storms that passed over the area on Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

The Grouse Mountain Fire started about 7 miles north of John Day, OR and is burning on state and private land, the fire did make a significant run to the south, the fires southern perimeter is located on the northen edge of the community of John Day.

The Starvation Fire is located near Sheep Mountain, 16 miles SE of Prairie City, OR and is burning on the Malheur National Forest.
