The Thunder City Fire started four miles northeast of the Stibnite Mining District on the Payette National Forest. The fire is inside the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness. Objectives include confining the fire within the wilderness and containing it if it moves outside the wilderness boundary.

The fire is now at 13 361 acres but with minimal fire activity.

The Area Closure that was in place for the fire has been lifted as of September 10 2013. See the opening order under the maps button link.
