The Pine Creek Fire burned 2,797 acres and is now contained.
The fire area is in a monitor status. That means it is checked regularly, and there is an engine in the area.
Grimes Creek Road is fully opened. The area closure remains in effect until further notice. The Wildcat Gulch Road is closed. The areas west of Grimes Creek Road are open for public use. That closure will be reviewed during the week of July 29th.
The Pine Creek Fire started July 15 and is under investigation, but is likely person caused. Currently campfire restrictions will be implemented Thursday August 1. This restriction prohibits any campfire, barbeque, stove fire, or any material that would create ash except in a designated campground, or recreation site. Gas or propane stoves are allowed outside a designated site.
The Pine Creek fire burned at varying intensity over the terrain, producing a mosaic pattern. In some areas within the fire perimeter, the fire burned with such intensity that it consumed all visible vegetation, while in other areas it burned light enough to consume only the vegetation at ground level. This variation in heat and duration allows for regeneration of the vegetation to occur more rapidly. Many of the tree and shrub species are fire-dependent and will prosper in the recently affected ecosystem.
