BLM Medford District Emergency Closure

Rum Creek Fire
Publication Type: Closures 08/29/2022

Expanded emergency fire closure area issued by the Bureau of Land Management for Rum Creek Fire

August 28, 2022
Medford, Oregon – As a result of continued fire growth, the Bureau of Land Management Grants Pass Field Office has expanded the temporary closure of BLM-managed lands in the vicinity of Rum Creek Fire for public and firefighter safety. Members of the public may not enter closed areas, and all uses—including hiking, hunting and dispersed camping—are prohibited.

Today’s closure order encompasses all public lands west of Interstate 5 and north of T35S R6W and T35S R7W.  The southwest boundary comprises the line between the BLM and Forest Service lands.  The western boundary includes lands east of East Fork Big Windy Creek and Bunker Creek. The northern boundary is T33S R8W.  Bear Camp Road is open at this time.

Please see the map for full closure information on the BLM website: https://www.blm.gov/programs/public-safety-and-fire/fire-and-aviation/regional-info/oregon-washington/fire-restrictions

Public and firefighter safety remain the highest priority. Extreme fire growth and behavior have prompted the expanded closures as fire suppression crews continue to respond. As it becomes safe to do so, firefighters will assess the closure and its impacts in alignment with sound risk management practices.

Weather and fuel conditions remain favorable for continued fire spread. For the latest road and weather condition updates, visit https://www.tripcheck.com/. BLM Medford District has additional fire closures and fire restriction information available on BLM.GOV.

Please call 911 to report any signs of new fires.
